Did a Octoberfest and used my home made wort chiller. It cut my chill down time by half. So I will have to say it is a success.

Here is the finished product for the most part. I'll snap another picture while it is in use the next time. I just had way too much going on this first time to snap any pictures. I also have more photo's during the build if you all would like them p…

wort chillers make such a huge difference, I bought one but I wish I would have thought of just making one, I am curious how this is going to turn out.

I watched a guy on YouTube build one of these. He used 3/8 pipe and 50' of it. I am using 1/2 pipe and 20' feet instead. Don't know if it will make a difference or not. I'll let you know as I get further into this build.

If your going to build one of these try and find elbows and tees that do not have the UPC sticker on them. After I finished this one I let it soak in a cleaner bath like I do for bottles when I want the lables to come off. The paper came off but the…

Holiday Ale by Brewers Best

After kegging my lemonade last night I decided to go ahead and brew up a kit I bought earlier in the day. Went down to my local brew store (Mr Steve's located in York, Pa) and just bought a kit from the shelf. I haven't done a kit since my very first brew. This one looked pretty good and should go well with the up coming holidays. He has a "HOP NOG" kit down there as well. I would really like to give that a shot too because it looks to be a IPA. That would be a good one to just bottle.
Anyway I'… Continue

Lemonade Hooch

Ok guys I got all the stuff to make this one. I'm planning on doing this today so wish me luck! I've had this before and it does really kick butt. It is over 40 proof so it will nock you around a bit. I'll post all the ingriedents after I get through the intial cook. There is alot that goes into this but most of it you can just get at the grocery store. As far as the stuff you need from the brew store it is very minimal.
Ingredients:
2# Golden LME (brew store)
2# Honey (your choice from grocery… Continue

Killians Red Ale

The wife wanted me to do a brew for her and when she said what she wanted I was like "ok no problem". She wanted a Killians clone and I really like Killians myself so this was clearly a no brainer. This is the first time I brewed with that Flaked Maize (corn) and leaf hops. The corn was definately different to use because it swelled up when I was steeping it, a little more than I expected. The leaf hops was actually quite easy to clean up concidering how much they expand as well when they absorb… Continue

My version of a Blue Moon

I was going through what hops I had left over from previous brews and decided to use those while doing a Blue Moon. The Blue Moon called for Willemette and Saag hops. I did have the Willemette for the full brew time but I used the Yakama Magnium for the last 15 minutes instead of more Willemette and then used Hallertau for the last 5 minutes instead of the Saag. This one sat in the primary for 10 days before transferring into the secondary. Then I only kept it in the secondary for 11 days becaus… Continue

My Home Brewing

I decided to edit this post some. I kind of didn't make any sence to keep that post up there from my first crack at brewing. We can all share this spot with ideas for future brews and I'll continue to update my current brews that I'm doing. I have gotton alot of good advise from everyone here and I wanted to thank you all for that. Feel free to continue and please tell me if I'm about to make a huge mistake......

I would like to go to Troegs, Appalachian, Yuengling, and the others in the area. It would be a great trip on the motorcycle with a bunch of buddies. Just have to really be carefull with the amount of tasting.

Have you ever taken a trip to Troegs brewing company in Harrisburg? They make some really good beers some of my favorite back here in Pa, I was thinking on taking a trip down there but would like some feedback before I take the drive.

Awesome! Me too - I'm a huge Steelers fan. Looking forward to the coming season.

Hey Stephen, as far as PA brew knowledge goes, I don't have much experience out near York. There are a few great breweries kind of close to me in Pittsburgh, believe it or not (ask Neil, he knows what I'm talking about). Church Brewery and East End Brewing Co are fantastic (especially East End). Even Erie PA has a couple good ones.

Are there any good breweries out your way?

Thanks for the info Stephen. What's the brew scene like out in York? I'm originally from Pittsburgh myself. Let me ask - Steelers or Eagles?

yeah Fat Tire is a really good beer, it was one my first micro-brews I had ever tried, I used to drink it all the time until I discovered my insane love for extreme hopped IPA's.

Hi Stephen, I just moved back to Pittsburgh from Boulder, Colorado about 45 minutes from where Fat Tire is brewed, do they sell it in York? I would love to pick some up. I have some family in York and would gladly take a drive down there to pick up some New Belgium Brewery products.
