Hey Nick,
great blog - you go my creative juices flowing LOL
I bought some honey last weekend at a local fair and I'm thinking of brewing a batch of mead - do you have any suggestions for a first timer?
Also - I just put together a Youtube instructional on brewing Graff cider (
www.youtube.com/users/msheridan69) - I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers,
Martin

After kegging my lemonade last night I decided to go ahead and brew up a kit I bought earlier in the day. Went down to my local brew store (Mr Steve's located in York, Pa) and just bought a kit from the shelf. I haven't done a kit since my very first brew. This one looked pretty good and should go well with the up coming holidays. He has a "HOP NOG" kit down there as well. I would really like to give that a shot too because it looks to be a IPA. That would be a good one to just bottle.
Anyway I'…

Ok guys I got all the stuff to make this one. I'm planning on doing this today so wish me luck! I've had this before and it does really kick butt. It is over 40 proof so it will nock you around a bit. I'll post all the ingriedents after I get through the intial cook. There is alot that goes into this but most of it you can just get at the grocery store. As far as the stuff you need from the brew store it is very minimal.
Ingredients:
2# Golden LME (brew store)
2# Honey (your choice from grocery…

The wife wanted me to do a brew for her and when she said what she wanted I was like "ok no problem". She wanted a Killians clone and I really like Killians myself so this was clearly a no brainer. This is the first time I brewed with that Flaked Maize (corn) and leaf hops. The corn was definately different to use because it swelled up when I was steeping it, a little more than I expected. The leaf hops was actually quite easy to clean up concidering how much they expand as well when they absorb…

I was going through what hops I had left over from previous brews and decided to use those while doing a Blue Moon. The Blue Moon called for Willemette and Saag hops. I did have the Willemette for the full brew time but I used the Yakama Magnium for the last 15 minutes instead of more Willemette and then used Hallertau for the last 5 minutes instead of the Saag. This one sat in the primary for 10 days before transferring into the secondary. Then I only kept it in the secondary for 11 days becaus…

Published in Charlie P's Joy of Homebrewing, this questionable recipe requires an actual chicken (not a wiener, sicko). 300+ years before "cock" became the commonplace substitute for "wang", Sir Kenelme Digby published this stomach churning dri…

I decided to edit this post some. I kind of didn't make any sence to keep that post up there from my first crack at brewing. We can all share this spot with ideas for future brews and I'll continue to update my current brews that I'm doing. I have gotton alot of good advise from everyone here and I wanted to thank you all for that. Feel free to continue and please tell me if I'm about to make a huge mistake......

I live in a different kind of town called Boulder, CO.
For lack of a better descriptive word, it's retarded. That can really work for or against a place. A town where roads were actually built for pedestrians and bikers, and hippies drive Mercedes, I'd argue that where I live is comparatively backwards to the rest of the world.…

Michigan recently approved a state tax credit of $722,957 for the Michigan Brewing Company to create 394 new jobs (161 jobs at the brewery, and somehow 233 for the rest of the state). As a beer enthusiast, it seems dream-like for the government to…

When you get a
beer kit from your local home brew supplier, you assume it's fresh.
But do you really know? Think you got a "good deal" on that Porter kit? Wrong! That kit was 25% off because it 100% sucks. Old ingredients make old beer. Like many retaile…

At Mac World in San Francisco, my primary goal is not so nerd related.
Like any trip away from home, I'm scouring unfamiliar land for the opportunity to sample otherwise unreachable craft brews. After the expo, I randomly came across…

The Boulder area isn't exactly void of quality breweries.
Lefthand, Avery, Boulder Beer, BJ's, Walnut, Wild Mountain, Twisted Pine, Mountain Sun, Oskar Blues - and that's not even counting Fort Collins. Given this seemingly over cr…
